The Government is working on a single procurement framework for exterior and street lighting that is set to drive down prices in the sector, writes Lux Magazine

The Crown Commercial Service – which uses the buying power of the public sector to save money for the taxpayer – is working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change on an ambitious plan to make lighting products more affordable.

It’s co-ordinating a number of key Government departments, including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice, the NHS, health authorities and even universities, to ensure that luminaires, controls and lighting services can be ‘purchased effectively’. DECC also hopes that the plan will increase the adoption of energy-efficient LED lighting.

‘This plan will create a multi-billion pound market which will drive down both cost of procurement for companies involved and make savings to those participating,’ a Government source told Lux.
