Project launched to explore health, wellbeing and productivity in retail

An initiative to help measure the health, wellbeing and productivity benefits of sustainable retail property has been launched by the UK Green Building Council.

The project builds on last year’s World Green Building Council report linking office design with productivity gains and aims provide a better understanding of the relationship between sustainable store design, the health and wellbeing of staff and customers, and profit.

The project is part of a larger two year World Green Building Council global campaign looking to accelerate the demand for greener, healthier buildings and explore what further tools, resources and information are necessary to help occupants implement changes in their own buildings.

A Retail Task Group, led by UK-GBC, has been set up to adapt existing ways of measuring health and wellbeing set out in last year’s report specifically for the retail sector, and to help strengthen the business case for sustainable stores, and pilot the metrics in real stores - gathering real data and developing best practice case studies.
