Following the news that 14 stores close every day on the UK’s High Street, Greenlite Group is urging Britain’s retailers to rethink their store lighting this winter.
The message is a simple one: the right lighting can improve the instore experience for customers and help stores to maintain their competitive edge.
Placing a focus on lighting is particularly prescient in a market that has been hard hit by changes to consumer buying trends:
A recent report from accountancy firm PwC confirmed that over 2,500 stores disappeared from Britain’s high streets in the first six months of this year – a sobering message to retailers.
“The UK High Street is feeling the squeeze and faces its toughest trading conditions in five years. The need to create the most compelling and attractive stores is paramount in order to turn footfall into sales,” comments Bob Hall, MD of Greenlite Group.
“Lighting - when it is designed correctly - is a critical ingredient in delivering customer experience and aesthetics. Merchandise that is perfectly illuminated will encourage customers to take time to appreciate the products and ultimately catalyse the desire to purchase. Similarly, uniformity of lighting will allow customers to comfortably navigate your store without sudden, harsh changes in the lighting levels – improving their shopping experience.
“We’ve worked with a number of large retailers to improve their store lighting, including Moss Bros and The Original Factory Shop. If any retailers are looking for advice on how they can use lighting to improve their stores, we’d love to chat to them.”
