Regular lighting maintenance delivers consistent illumination and energy savings for Mayr-Melnhof Packaging

Greenlite Group’s testing and relamping services are helping the packaging giant to maintain the high production standards required at its UK factory.

In most factories, good light levels are key to ensuring product quality and consistency, and as one of the leaders in the global packaging market, Mayr-Melnhof Packaging is no exception.

The company’s factory in Deeside relies on consistent, daylight colour lighting to render product colours accurately, particularly in the printing and inspection areas of the site.

Industrial environments can also be high-risk, so health and safety is also of crucial importance. To comply with MMP's controlled environment procedures the light fittings are encapsulated to avoid contamination in the workplace

When MMP got in touch with us, they were looking for a reliable, no hassle and flexible lighting maintenance partner who could ensure that the lighting was consistent and compliant. At Greenlite, this is where we can really add value – we always start with the customer brief, and then come up with a solution to fit their needs.

Our solution

We devised a regular planned lighting maintenance schedule that would avoid unnecessary disruption to production activity. So that time is not wasted, we contact MMP every month to see if they need a visit from one of our engineers. If everything’s working as it should, we don’t attend site and we don’t charge – it’s as simple as that.

To achieve longer term cost saving benefits, we are also gradually upgrading the entire site to LED lighting as part of our regular 6 monthly relamping service: This cost-effective way of upgrading the lighting will improve illumination and deliver significant energy savings.

We also set a schedule for emergency lighting testing to ensure MMP is always compliant with regulations.

What was the outcome?

  • Regular maintenance and re-lamping ensures that the excellent light levels and daylight colour needed for product inspection are maintained.
  • Our gradual upgrade of the site to LED lighting will improve energy efficiency and lamp life – meaning fewer replacements will be needed in the future.
  • A flexible package (where visits are only made when required) means no unnecessary cost or disruption for MMP.
  • Emergency light testing and regular audits keep MMP compliant with health and safety regulations.
